WordPress theme basics
A WordPress theme controls presentation. Posts, pages, media, categories, users, and comments remain in the WordPress database. Switching themes does not normally delete content, although menu locations, widgets, and theme-specific settings can require reconfiguration.
Recommended workflow
Keep WordPress, PHP, plugins, and themes supported and current. Test important changes on staging when possible, use child themes for code customizations, and maintain restorable backups.
